Ties over the Atlantic event

On Monday 16th May at 7.30pm in the Council Chambers, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Tasglann nan Eilean Siar will be hosting an event focussing on the ties Lewis holds with the city of Detroit.

The evening will be chaired by Councillor Kenneth Maciver and will provide those attending with the chance to hear stories from some who were born in the city to island parents and those who married island men and came to the island.  Genealogy expert, Bill Lawson, will also speak on emigration patterns from Lewis to North America.

The records of the Lewis Society of Detroit will also be on display.  These records were brought back from Detroit by Councillor Kenneth Maciver in 2007, who visited the city as part of his radio programme.   Among those who will speak on the panel is Annie Macleay, who re-visited the city where she born, but had never returned to, last year.

Everyone is very welcome at the event, which is sure to be a very interesting evening.  If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on tasglann@cne-siar.gov.uk or telephone 01851 822 750.
