Friday photo; Lewis Hospital

On Monday at 7.30 in the Comhairle chambers, Sandwick Road, Stornoway Historical Society will be presenting the last of their lectures for this winter.  The talk will be part three of a series focused on Lewis Hospital by Margaret Dobson, a former nurse and ward sister who retired in 2006.  The above postcard of the old Lewis hospital is dated 1910, 14 years after it was opened in 1896 by Donald Matheson, nephew of Sir James Matheson.  The fittings and furnishings of the ward were generously donated by J Ross Robertson of Toronto, a successful publisher in Canada and a grandson of Hector Sinclair of Goathill Farm.
