Friday photo; Mingulay

It has been another busy week in the Tasglann office!  Donna and David headed down to Barra to repatriate School Log Books and provide catalogue training to the historical society there, while in the office we met with Stornoway Historical Society to discuss a future event and exhibition.

We also received our first international enquiry, all the way from Manitoba, Canada!  A further enquiry hailed from a bit closer to home, and asked for information on Mingulay, which reminded me to dig out this photo of blackhouses on the island in 1909.

By 1909, Mingulay was in its dying days of habitation, and by 1912 it was sadly abandoned completely.  Having passed through various owner’s hands, Mingulay is now in the charge of the National Trust for Scotland
