Annie Macleay’s visit to the Tasglann

As eager readers of the Stornoway Gazette will see, this weeks issue contain’s a piece on  Annie Macleay, our first visitor since the project commenced in June of this year and the visit she paid to the Tasglann office’s. Annie came to see us following her interesting radio programme on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, where she returned to her birth city of Detroit. The Tasglann team felt it was only right that Annie be given the opportunity to come in and see the records which are stored in the Library in Stornoway from the Lewis Society of Detroit. Unfortunately, David was out of the office the day Annie and her daughter came to see us but her stories from her return to Detroit and her memories of her early years there lightened up Katie Ann and I’s Friday afternoon!

Below is a photograph of Annie with Donna, Archives Assistant (Graduate Trainee) having a look at the records.
