Friday photo: Sponish House

As we move into May and the weather improves (hopefully) and the grass becomes greener this scene seemed quite appropriate (although maybe it needs some gambolling lambs?)

Suspension bridge leading to Sponish House, Lochmaddy

The view take in the suspension bridge at Lochmaddy with Sponish House just visible on the left hand side.  Sponish House was built in early 19th century for the factor of North Uist.  The suspension bridge is still operational today and a walk over will take you to the Hut of Shadows.  The  Hut of Shadows is a camera obscura – step inside to see the image of Loch nam Madadh projected onto its inner walls.
