Friday photo: This week in 1896….

This week in 1896, the Lewis Hospital opened in Stornoway. Situated on Goathill Road, it opened on 1st February and had over 80 beds for patients. Although the building was demolished when the hospital closed back in the early 1990’s, the gates have been kept and can be seen at the entrance to a family home on Goathill Road. It is great to see them still standing after all these years.
