Friday photo; Dun Borve

Borve Castle, also known as Castle Wearie or, as seen above, Dun Borve, is believed to have built by Amy MacRuairi, the first wife of John of Islay, chief of Clan Donald.   Following John divorcing Amy in order to marry into and align himself with the House of Stewart, Amy built several chapels and two castles, Castle Tioram in Moidart, and Borve Castle in Benbecula.  The castle is thought to have been built between 1344 and 1363, and became the seat of Clan Ranald.  The castle is now sadly in ruins, but is thought to have been three storeys tall and once sat upon a rocky outcrop, but now sits on machair land, the area have been reclaimed thanks to drainage of the land.
