Friday photo; Picture the Past, Create the Future

Next weekend, as part of the Festival of Museums, Museum nan Eilean and An Lanntair are working in partnership to hold a two day programme for families to explore some of the history of Lews Castle.  Families will get the opportunity to re-interpret and act out scenes and tableaux from Lady Matheson’s photographs from the 1800s featuring picnics, hunting scenes, family and landscape – and bring them up-to-date!

Starting with a workshop on Friday evening 18 May, 18.30 – 20.00 at Museum nan Eilean, then in situ in Lews Castle grounds on Saturday morning from 10.00 a.m. setting your scenes and taking photographs.   The final workshop will be on Saturday afternoon in An Lanntair using photography techniques, old and new, to create an album for the future.

The workshops are free for families and children 18/19th May but children and their accompanying adults need to be free to attend all three workshops.

Please ring An Lanntair to reserve your places on 01851 708480.  For more information ring the museum on 01851 822746.

The postcard above of a woman and dog outside Lews Castle is from Stornoway Library’s collection of images, though sadly it has no identifying features on it.  We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the image and can shed some light on it, please do get in touch!
