Friday photo; Lews Castle Staff

David recently met with Douglas Davidson who provided us with the above image for today’s Friday Photo of staff of Lews Castle circa 1890s-1910.  Douglas’s grandmother and great aunt both worked as servants for the Matheson family, his grandmother is in the top row, third from the right, wearing a black dress with a white lace collar.

Unfortunately the other staff (and wee boy!) in the photograph have not yet been identified.  Can you help?  If you can, contact the Tasglann using tasglann@cne-siar.gov.uk or call 822 750.

Great thanks go to Douglas for lending the photograph, which shows in greater detail the design of the greenhouses which were once beside Lews Castle.
