The above photo shows three generations of the same family in 1911 on the islands of Heisker, found off the coast of North Uist. Also known as the Monach isles, Heisker is famous for being the isles Lady Grange was imprisoned on for two years prior to her long banishment on St Kilda in the 18th century. It has being uninhabited since the 1940s and was designated as a National Nature Reserve in 1966, supporting a large range of nesting seabirds.
Liniclate Library holds the school log books for Heisker from 1883-1942, if you would like to see them simply ask the librarian next time you are in.
