Friday Photos; Old Shops of Stornoway

Last night we had our Old Shops of Stornoway event co-hosted with Stornoway Historical Society in the library.  I’m very happy to say that it was a great success with a fantastic turnout!  Our three speakers, Sandy Matheson, Norrie Macgregor and Malcolm Macdonald, took us through some of the shops featured in our Old Shops display, with a few enjoyable detours of stories of other shops and Stornoway folk.

It was fascinating to listen to the three gentlemen share their knowledge of Stornoway’s past, and hilarious to see their interactions with each other, with the evening often feeling more like a comedy show rather than a historical talk!  It was also great to see so many business owners in the crowd, and we hope that Sandy’s plea to think twice about destroying records does not go unheard!  We really cannot thank these three gentlemen enough!

Great thanks also go to the Library Staff, Joan, MM, Cathie and Kathleen (not in the picture, she was tucked just behind!) for lending us their library, helping us move furniture and running around frantically with us trying to find extra seats for people!  No need for us to do the Shawbost 10K tomorrow!

The event was filmed for An Là for BBC ALBA, so be sure to watch it tonight!

All in all, it was a great night, and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!  If the event inspired you to think about business records you may hold, please do get in touch on tasglann@cne-siar.gov.uk or 01851 822 750 to see if we can be of assistance.
