Friday photo and song; Berneray Week

With the Tall Ships and the Hebridean Celtic Festival flooding the town in Stornoway, it’s easy to forget that there is plenty going on across the Western Isles!  Kicking off down South today is Berneray Week, with dance lessons at 4pm then a chance to show off your new skills in the opening night Ceilidh Dance.  This year is particularly special as the island will be celebrating 25 years since the opening of their Community Hall.  Berneray Historical Society will be co-hosting an event with the Community Association on Tuesday night at 7.30pm providing a display of old photographs and a video celebrating the anniversary.   Thanks go to Sue Wilson from Berneray Historical Society for providing an image of the Hall.

Below the photograph of the hall is an excerpt from the 1997 Berneray Gatliff Hostel Logbook, where a resident was so moved by the surroundings and people they composed a tune dedicated to the island.  I’m sure anyone visiting the Island this week will be just as impressed by the island, and the great community spirit of its people.
