Lews Castle consultation

Yesterday saw over 900 people take the opportunity to look around the main public rooms on the ground floor of the iconic Lews Castle.  If you look carefully at the picture below, you may even see the baldy head of a certain archivist talking to members of Stornoway Historical Society!

This open day formed a popular part of a community consultation event on the proposals to create a new hotel, museum and archive in the building.  Presentations on the design and proposed content for the museum and archive were presented in the neighbouring College foyer.  The Tasglann team manned a stand with a selection of original archives including photographs, documents and volumes which proved very popular.  We were certainly kept busy answering questions about the collections and collections held in the wider community.  it was great to see people enthusiasm for the Lews Castle project and delight at seeing original archives.

A thoroughly fun and interesting day for all, including us!
