Council Archives

One of the Tasglann’s roles is to work with public authorities to help highlight the value of archives as well as help them to look after their own.  On Monday the Tasglann team held a “drop in” session in the Comhairle offices in Stornoway for Council staff to come and see some of the early records of the Comhairle and its predecessor bodies.

The included school log books, police court records, photographs, HMI reports, poor law applications and records relating to the Burgh of Stornoway.  We had many visitors who enjoyed getting to view the original documents, admire the copperplate handwriting and see that some of the records they produce today will one day be the archives of the future.

Some of these records will be available for public view at the Lews Castle Consultation day in the College foyer so do come along!
