Here it hasn’t been the races but the emigration to Canada which has been the excitement. I was down at the quay for a little while but the wind and dust were just too much for me so I came home and did my arrears of darning. Saturday here was a stirring day. I do not think we have ever seen the town, or rather the quays, so crowded. The occasion was the embarkation of about 300 emigrants for Canada. The big ship “Metagama” of the Canadian Pacific R[ailwa]y. Co[mpan]y. came in about 10 o’clock & anchored inside the harbour mouth off Stoneyfield … Stornoway 24th Apr. 1923
